Heating & air conditioning maintenance is one of the best ways to keep your HVAC system efficient and your air quality high. Many people disregard it, thinking of it as unnecessary time and expense.
However, it’s important, and we’re going to tell you why.
Why Do HVAC Maintenance Regularly?
You don’t want to be caught with a broken part in either your heating or your air conditioner units.
Don’t end up without heating in the winter, or AC in the summer! People get sick and die from problems related to heatstroke every single summer, and heat waves are difficult to predict.
Doing maintenance will lower the overall cost of future repairs.
Not maintaining your unit could result in the warranty being voided. If there is a problem with your HVAC system that could be replaced under warranty, not doing the proper maintenance could have your warranty voided due to neglect.
What Maintenance is Necessary?
Replacing Air Filters
Your air filter is an important part of making sure that overall air quality and unit efficiency is A-OK. Air filters need to be changed regularly, depending on what kind of filter you have.
- If you have a standard air filter, it should be changed about once every month.
- If you have an electronic air cleaner in your HVAC system, the filter can be cleaned once a month without replacing it.
- If you have a Spaceguard, Aprilaire or Honeywell media filter in your HVAC system, you can have it replaced every 6 to 12 months.
Clear Leaves & Dirt from Air Conditioner Unit
This you can do on your own. Your air conditioner unit likely has buildup around it, and this could be blocking off airflow.
Leaves, and debris from leaves, should be removed so that the area around the AC unit is clear. This can be done with a hose.
