Palatine Unique Indoor Comfort’s roots go back to a predecessor company started by Steve Rothacker in 1967. In or about 1971 this company joined Unique Indoor Comfort, Inc and was renamed, rebranded, reincorporated Palatine Unique Indoor Comfort, Inc and in 1972 moved to its current location.
Steve Rothacker with the assistance of Tom Mutz who was the founder and President of Unique Indoor Comfort, Inc. started two other Unique Indoor Comfort Companies in the Chicago area, one in Dallas, TX. Under their leadership, Palatine Unique Indoor Comfort alumni Al DeGenova founded Elmhurst Unique Indoor Comfort, Inc. in 1978 and Ed Banczak founded what is now Northbrook Unique Indoor Comfort, Inc, in 1986. Steve Rothacker founded Dallas Unique Indoor Comfort in 1980.

Jim Deibel began at Palatine Unique Indoor Comfort, Inc. in 1984 as a part time salesperson and worked his way up into management and ownership. Currently he assists in management, sales, and service operations.
James Kirk is the President of Palatine Unique Indoor Comfort, Inc. James began his career with Unique Indoor Comfort in Atlanta, GA in 2010 where he honed his technical skills and knowledge. Prior to Unique Indoor Comfort, James Kirk was a project manager in the commercial construction industry.

James Kirk is married to Sarah Mutz Kirk who grew up in Barrington Hills, IL. She is the daughter of Greg Mutz, a founding director and shareholder of Unique Indoor Comfort, the niece of Frank Mutz, a founding director, shareholder, and President of Unique Indoor Comfort, and the granddaughter of Tom Mutz, I, the late founder of Unique Indoor Comfort. Sarah is an advisor to James and Palatine Unique Indoor Comfort. She has an undergraduate degree from the University of Pennsylvania and a law degree from the University of Michigan.
